Polypropylene Pipe Systems

Its lightweight, high strength, and increased temperature resistance combine to make polypropylene the most attractive thermoplastic of the polyolefins. In general, polypropylene  is suitable for service from -20 to 85°C (-5° to 180°F) (please refer to corrosion resistance table for more details). Polypropylene is chemically resistant to organic solvents, as well as most acids and alkalis (particularly hydrochloric and phosphoric acid) but should not be used with oxidizing acids, chlorinated hydrocarbons, aromatic compounds and high concentrations of free chlorine.

Simtech’s AlphaPlus® polypropylene is ideally suited for chemical wastes, agricultural chemicals, hospitals and laboratories, salt water disposal, crude oil piping systems, and low pressure fume / gas gathering systems.  Alpha-nucleated PP is FDA-approved for contact with food.

PP is very inert and thus ideal for high purity applications such as reverse osmosis / deionized water, etc.  The material is normally made opaque by the addition of a beige-gray pigment to prevent ultraviolet light penetration. Without pigment, translucent “natural” polypropylene will degrade if exposed to UV light.  Polypropylene is joined by thermal fusion.
