Water Treatment Plant Upgrades for Sulfuric Acid Lines

When a water treatment plant in southern Florida had new construction utilizing both ion exchange and nanofiltration technologies, they turned to Simtech Process Systems to provide Kynar® PVDF piping systems.  This project included over 1800’ of ½” to 4” single wall Kynar® PVDF pipe and fittings.

This piping system handles 93% sulfuric acid that is used for pH control and alkalinity adjustments in the water treatment plant. The piping is above ground in mainly outdoor areas that can have ambient temperatures up to 120oF.

Installation of the Kynar® PVDF piping for this project started in Q2 2025.  The piping system was first put into use in Q2 2026 once other parts of the project were completed.

Simtech provided certified training for butt fusion and socket fusion of Kynar® PVDF piping system at the jobsite.

Simtech was able to support the customer throughout the entire project with pre-fabrication as needed, on-site training, supplemental pipe and fittings, and other technical assistance.

The reasons that Kynar® PVDF piping from Simtech was specified and selected for this project include the following:

  • Excellent chemical resistance to 93% sulfuric acid
  • NSF 61 compliance of the entire piping system
  • Meets size and pressure requirements
  • Light weight material with minimal mechanical support needed
  • All pipe fusion is butt and socket welds, so no pipe cement needed
  • Quick and easy to weld pipes and fittings with welding equipment provided by Simtech
  • Molded pipe fittings for optimal flow characteristics, pressure rating, and ease of welding & installation
